Bob Lehman's Trucks

Only two trucks in his life.  Bob Lehman had only two trucks during his driving years.  Bob liked to keep his trucks a long time.  Bob currently is a resident at Manor Care.  If you ever get a chance to see him, you will see a room full of pictures of his second truck.  That truck is a 1972 Chevrolet Custom/10.  His sons restored their dad's truck and brought to our 2015 Car Show.  Below is a picture of a special award created and given to Bob recently by Pastor John.  I would like to give out a special thanks to Sunset Metal Works, Coyote Tank, and Sun Protectors for their help in creating this one-of-a-kind piece.

My dad had 2 trucks in his lifetime, a 1954 Chevy step side and a 1972 C-10 Chevy step side both were mint shape.  I remember when I was 12 years old he use to plant a large garden and haul horse manure in the 1954 Chevy to spread over the garden.  I would help him just so I could move the truck forward each time it needed to be moved.  Just like any 14 year old boy that loved old trucks one Wednesday night mom and dad went away for the evening.  The truck was just looking at me like it wanted a ride.  So I hopped in and took it for a spin.  Of course that's not the end of the story I slid into a bank along side the road and on the way home ran out of gas.  As luck would have it I stopped in front of my friends farm.  Walked up to the house ask my friend for some gas.  His dad had the gas and helped put it into the truck and told me to go back home.

Later on when I was 17 my dad finally left me drive the truck to school.  I was very proud to drive the truck and my friends loved it too.

When my dad restored the 1954 truck it was John Sr. Pastor Johns father that did the restoration.  He did an awesome job.  John Sr. also painted an old school bus Green for Pastor John and the Living Miracles.

In 1981 my dad bought his second truck the 1972 C-10.  He drove this truck every day  to work until he retired.  He then restored the truck.  He always said when he couldn't drive anymore he wanted me to have the truck.  My dad is now in a nursing home and I have the truck.  I took the truck to a Pastor John's car show at his church were I had dad transported to enjoy the activities and his birthday.  I entered his truck into the show under his name.  We were so proud when he received 3rd place in his division.  When dads name was called out by Pastor John he said "Robert Lehman,  I haven't seen him in years".  Pastor John had a personalized trophy made in his honor.

John had remembered my dad from many years ago when he and my sister where in the Living Miracles choir.

In closing when I spoke to my dad after the show he said "It was the best birthday gift I could have ever given him".  I will always remember him telling me that.

Thank you John for showing an interest in my dads special times.

One of the girls in the picture on right is Bernice (Lehman) Chamberlain.  Bernice was a student of Released Time Bible Program with Pastor John and a camper at Camp Joy-El.  She also was a camp counselor and a singer with the Living Miracles teen choir from Camp Joy-El.
